also fascists really get upset when you say "i'm not giving fascists my money any more".

like it really seems to hurt them, even when they aren't the ones you're targeting.

from this, i conclude it's even better to stop giving money to fascists than i thought.

Soatok’s Informal Guide to Threat Models

After a long day of exhausting conversations about Hybrid Post-Quantum Cryptography, random jackasses trying to play gotcha with endpoint attacks against end-to-end encrypted messaging apps, and message board discussions in the wake of dumb politicians pushing more "age verification" bullshit on us all, it's become abundantly clear to me that the phrase "threat model" is a foreign…

I’m loving the return of alternative papers in #SanFrancisco. Definitely feels like a reaction to the rise of ai slop online. I hope these periodicals stick around for a while.

A photo of three different alternative newspapers: The Gazetteer, Culture Slop, and Smoke Signal. These all look like alternative weekly newspapers in format and most were free.

I made an error, thanks to @JessTheUnstill for correcting me. The quotes above do NOT come from the majority opinion, they come from Thomas' concurrence.

However, the majority opinion does say "biological males who identify as female" repeatedly, and basically says, being transgender and even taking HRT, having surgery, etc does not change your categorization from your gender assigned at birth per the court's opinion.

Well the US Supreme Court decided that trans people aren't real today. https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25pdf/24-43%5F2b35.pdf

From Thomas's concurrence (EDIT: previously I said this was the majority opinion, I got that wrong):

> Because “gender dysphoria” is a mutable mental state that is the object of psychiatric treatment, it does not resemble the immutable characteristics on the basis of which our precedents have applied heightened scrutiny—race, sex, or national origin.

And even worse:

> Second, as the Court recognizes, this case concerns “biological men” and “boys who identify as girls.” Ante, at 10, 27. Men and boys with gender dysphoria are not women or girls, even if they believe that they are. Sex is an immutable “biological” characteristic, see ante, at 10; it is binary; and “man” and “woman,” “boy” and “girl,” are the terms that correspond to adults and children of each sex.

I'm sorry, everyone.

@jwz Earlier today I was watching an overview video for a new piece of hardware a distant acquaintance has just shipped. A good ten minutes of the video enthusiastically toured the various JTAG, I2C and secret USB headers all over the board, and halfway through that I was like, my brother, if you sell me this thing in a box for actual money, the first thing that’ll happen if I ever find myself needing any of those headers is it’ll get sent back to you in the very same box.

Live #Phish introduces new tier that *includes* video livestreams of every show.

It also looks like they are introducing a new dedicated Roku app, but it's not clear if that's for the livestream only tier or for the lower tier as well.

Introductory offer is $150 for the year. "Half the cost of a monthly subscription" so it sounds like the regular price will be $300/year.

New tier launches Thursday, right before summer tour.

LIVEPHISH WITH: LIVESTREAMS NOW INCLUDED An exciting change is coming to LivePhish this summer with the introduction of LivePhish With, a new subscription tier with livestreams included. From Phish's summer tour opener in Madison through the tour closer in Commerce City, LivePhish With is the only way to watch every show live - no additional purchases needed. LivePhish With also launches with a rotating carousel of curated archival Phish videos, a new Roku app, and more. At $149.99 for the first year - half the cost of a monthly subscription - it's less than the price of one traditional pay-per-view a month. LivePhish With goes live this Thursday. Stay Tuned.
