Australia is introducing free daytime power in July. They’ve installed so much #solar that the challenge is to use it effectively. People who can shift their electricity usage to the day (think retirees or people that work from home) can save a lot even if they don’t have solar. Anyone with a battery or two installed could see their power bill for many months go to almost zero.

Batteries are the key to having an economy that can run on solar and wind all the time.

@soatok I used to enjoy models like HMG IA Standard 1&2 that included both threat actors and threat sources, because it allowed for a lot more nuance and captured how legitimate system actors can become threat actors when influenced by a threat source.

I could have endless fun with them, however work drew the line when I started to include things like "inadequately managed change" and "management fads" as threat sources.

Interesting section in the Fable 5 system prompt about not acknowledging it has a memory system: in addition to generic "respond as if you have a memory, not reading a memory" prompting, it is specifically reminded to not allude to "external data" about a person. I wonder if that means external data as in from web searches and training data, or from external data provided by telemetry?

Anyway, always fun that a thing has to be reminded to not tell you that it has been compiling a profile of you

(this looks to be for the web interface, don't know how/if this is applied to the API or Claude code)

<forbidden_memory_phrases>` Memory requires no attribution, unlike web search or document sources which require citations. Claude never draws attention to the memory system itself except when directly asked about what it remembers or when requested to clarify that its knowledge comes from past conversations. Claude NEVER uses observation verbs suggesting data retrieval: - "I can see..." / "I see..." / "Looking at..." - "I notice..." / "I observe..." / "I detect..." - "According to..." / "It shows..." / "It indicates..." Claude NEVER makes references to external data about the person: - "...what I know about you" / "...your information" - "...your memories" / "...your data" / "...your profile" - "Based on your memories" / "Based on Claude's memories" / "Based on my memories" - "Based on..." / "From..." / "According to..." when referencing ANY memory content - ANY phrase combining "Based on" with memory-related terms

No One's guide for classes of native app to avoid is incredibly thorough, but nowhere is the logic of "app makers" more distilled than this section:

The goal of app stores is to rob you of the agency that interoperability and portability through open runtimes (browsers) give you. The gains from that trade are then largely deposited with data brokers and their clients, and no native app store is good about this. Indeed, if the were, they would be ghost towns.

I do like feeling like I am part of some grand bot poisoning conspiracy haha. I fight valliantly for The Resistance! I am feeding the slop bots the output of their creation! Even though all I am doing is running someone else's code on my server. Ah, I do love feeling the sense of accomplishment without putting in the work!

Yet I'm very surprised that the bots don't somehow notice that they're being fed garbage. Like the URLs are literal jumbled garbage! Surely they can point their ultra intelligent LLM at this content to figure out I might be running an AI blocker, then leave me the fuck alone?!?. Heck, they don't even need to run an LLM, just check that the URL consists of real words! It is rather telling they'd rather scrape garbage than run a reasonably simple check like this. Almost like they don't give a shit about what they're trying to "build".

I am very satisfied to report the 2013 game Michael Brough and I made, "BECOME A GREAT ARTIST IN JUST 10 SECONDS", has now been re-released on Itch with modern OS compatibility.

Originally made for the Ludum Dare game jam, GREAT ARTIST is an unhelpful art program, offering a large number of art production tools none of which work as you expect. Think of it as immersion training in glitch art, or a toy for babies producing colorful lights and sounds. Anyway, it's fun.
