Okay. It's Friday afternoon, I've been trying to get it together to stream since Monday. Just gotta get going.

Someone asked me if I'm still writing my own scripts, now that "AI can do all of that".
Yes, I am still writing my scripts.
I enjoy writing. No machine can stop that. No machine can take away the joy in creating something that didn't exist before.
I won't cede that to robots; I couldn't if I tried.

Sometimes using a prop from `data()` on a Vue component completely fucks up type inference of Computed and Methods, so the fix is mostly explicitly type everything.

Several years ago when we first started using typescript we stuck `[key: string]: any` onto the `Vue` interface and it has been hiding hundreds of type errors ever since. Now finally in the last mile of what is hopefully the final attempt to migrate from Vue2 -> Vue3 and fuck it I'm just gonna have to fix all of them.
(Anyone who suggests using an LLM even in jest is getting immediately blocked.)

Ok, I'm unofficially looking for work. I haven't _yet_ had the axe fall, but when the whole company is all-in on LLMs, the VP Eng expresses frustration at low velocity over the last month, and the team lead quotes Fable output stating it could do the work in an afternoon...
I should start mapping out the exits for this place. Fifteen years next month, and it could well end quite ignominiously.
North of 20 years' experience in Web development, so I can go from TypeScript/React down to nuts-and-bolts CSS and back; backend I've been a PHP-head the whole time, but have been known to write Ruby and Python in my travels.
Based in Manchester, UK; available to work worldwide (wherever local regulations allow contracting to a consulting limited company); full-remote would be a stipulation, but open to annual meetups etc.
And no LLM usage would be the other stipulation.
If there's work out there in renewable energy or permacomputing, I'd be especially open thereto.
[Edited to add a skills section, which I'd somehow missed]

The best kind of performance regression: my optimization branch is slower on some codepaths I didn't touch... because it doesn't include a different, earlier optimization that was merged into main after I branched.
Merged forward, "regression" solved.

If you want that signal to go 5x, or 10x as far -- copy paste a single line from it to where you bought your book (apple, kobo, b&n, waterstones, amazon), or storygraph, goodreads, hackernews, any tech forum you like that duplicates an information signal from social media out there -- and trust that I will *never look at it*
This shapes the information world around the book

Some #GoodNews: I run an Instagram account with a pretty sizable following that posts car meets and events around the #SFBA (dave.carmeets on #Instagram). After several weeks of warning, I am now starting to reject event flyers that were created using #AI.
I expected some pushback or anger over my decision, but much to my surprise, many event organizers that I talk to have been open to the idea and have given me alternative flyers that are human-made. In fact, I haven’t really gotten any pushback at all.
This is going better than I expected. I’m looking forward to posting no more #AI #slop on my channel, and helping my followers enjoy an AI-free feed for a change.

ethics aside should be treated similarly to “i'm not a racist, but”, as a clear vice signalling
ethics is the barrier between yourself and your acceptance of whatever atrocity you find personally convenient.
