I was very much raised believing “not making your personal emotions other peoples problem is part of being an adult” and while I can certainly point to the unhealthy repression and after effects, the fact we’re ruled by baby-brained narcissists speaks to its virtue.

This is a nice aspirational article:

While it stops short of actual examples and suggestions, it’s a good start! I really like pre-colonization African cultures, and I want to see more research into that! Did a research project on Mali and Songhai people once, and these people were quite advanced actually!

Cybertruck confirmed as the biggest automotive flop in history.

A graph showing how the edsel and Cybertruck both performed based on their sales target and actual year one and year two sales. The edsel was expected to sell 200k units in its first year. It sold slightly over 50k, and less than 50k the next year The Cybertruck had a sales target of 250k in its first year. They sold around 40k, the next year they sold about 20K.

i remember seeing/playing with a thing like 8? years ago that was pretty much a reverse engineering challenge thing, where the goal is you have a lock you need to open and you can see the assembly code the lock is running, and you need to figure out what input to send to the lock to open it. to help you figure it out, you could test it against a copy of the lock you could attach a debugger to, but to pass the level you had to run it on the lock without a debugger attached.

does this sound familiar to anyone/anyone know what i'm talking about?

Weekend confession time:

One of the reasons why I’m extra sceptical of the various enthusiastic “AI” critics who manage somehow to sound vociferously critical of “AI” without actually criticising the tech itself and somehow remain eternally ignorant of the many contributions women (and specifically women) have made to the field of “AI” and “AI” criticism, is I keep asking myself:

Which these verbiage lovers will turn out to be the Matt Taibbi of “AI” critics?

One of the things I found nice from @andrewrk's talk was, finally, someone else hates A/B testing and says it!
