frankly i have doubts other people want a language whose explicit purpose is to let me get up to all the naughty things i do in c. i suspect people are more looking for a replacement for higher level languages.

Okay, I dump on bsky a fair bit... I mean no edit feature (still), it tends to really mangle images when recompressing them, it has an obnoxiously low character limit, it's not *actually* federated in any meaningful way, etc, etc... but today I uploaded a video and they now let you upload soft subtitles (vtt format), which is an awesome feature that I wish Mastodon/Fedi (and other platforms that let you share video) would adopt!

I have discovered through two hours of research that Daniel Smith's Undersea Green and Roman Szmal's Geothite are possibly the two most underrated paints in my collection. Also that QOR makes Cobalt Teal and Cobalt Turquoise and I never really understood why there had to be two, but now I get it. Add in some Manganese Blue Hue and you have every sunny sky, every roiling bit of surf, not that I can paint either but hey that's what lifetimes are for.

Not sure what to make of that behaviour. Honestly it's nice to stop the communication late at night, but it can't be great if someone with a timezone difference wants to reach out.
OTOH as long as I'm actually going to bed at a reasonable time, turning the server off stays

@soatok Honestly, physics doesn't require being like Albert Einstein, nor math like Tao, either.
A lot of "smart people" fields are things anyone with the internal-motivation/curiosity/passion for, and sufficient opportunity and resources to learn it, can do very well.
The 'special trait' associated with it is usually 'really loves math' rather than 'is smarter than you'

Moved ~50 devices from SmartThings to HA (a mix of older and newer switches, sensors, etc.), and it feels *so* good to have the ST hub out of the loop. More ports back on the switch, lower latency overall, and it turned out that ST wasn't even patching firmware on all the devices, which HA is dutifully attending to now.
I wish HA had a global-entity-replacement feature so that when you're updating an automation it would also update the same entities in your dashboards, but not a big deal.
