In all cases, Anthropic’s evaluation prompt specified to Claude that its environment was a simulation and that it had no internet access. Due to a misunderstanding between us and our evaluation partner, this was not the case, and internet access was available

Soooo... Claude's guardrails were basically someone telling it "you have no Internet access"?

I guess they forgot to tell the model to "make no mistakes" either. :neocat_thinking:.

Truly, you cannot make this shit up.

That’s such a negative framing. I prefer to think of it as:

If a company with a ‘Generate this with AI’ button also gives you a ‘Report AI slop’ button, you should take advantage of this golden opportunity to poison their training data. A few ideas:

  • Flag only posts that are not obviously slop.
  • Flag every single post that mentions ‘AI’ in a vaguely positive way.
  • Flag every post that expresses positive sentiment towards Microsoft, Google, or Meta.
  • Spend a day finding posts that randomly tell everyone to install Linux, as the solution to any problem, like them and flag every other post you see.

2. How odd that being an established writer with a firm "no 'AI'" stance and ample pre-"AI" IP will become a definite competitive advantage over "new, hot, and possibly copyright compromised"

Incidentally what I like about microtonality is when I was learning music theory I kept on wondering "why are the notes like that???". Turns out they don't have to be and a lot of cultures make music in ways that aren't taught in Western music theory!! But 12TT also has certain advantages, e.g. ease of transposition

reddit post from InBaggingArea so my HOA sent me a violation notice for an "unsightly weed" in my front yard. $50 a day until it's removed. i was gonna just pull it but it looked unusual so i took a photo and ran it through a plant ID app. then a second one. then i started googling. turns out this “unsightly weed" is a federally protected endangered wildflower. FEDERALLY. PROTECTED. i contacted my state's wildlife agency and they sent a biologist who confirmed it. she was genuinely thrilled. took soil samples, called a colleague. i'm standing there watching this woman have the best day of her career over a plant my HOA wanted me to rip out. long story short, that patch of my lawn is now officially protected habitat. i have paperwork saying i'm legally required to not mow or disturb it. the HOA's fines? evaporated. they can't touch it. i can't even touch it. the biologist mentioned the flowers will likely spread next spring. i have never rooted for a weed harder in my life u/boogiemanspud you defeated a small bureaucracy by summoning a much larger one. that's a boss fight strategy. u/SingingTurnip that weed now has stronger legal protection than any homeowner in the neighborhood.
