Omfg I just had the best interaction in a very long time
I was buying a snack at my local supermarket and the manager told me he loved my shirt
I was wearing the pink one with a rainbow that says "Respect my trans homies or I'll identify as a fucking problem"
I answered that I liked being colorful, thinking he was talking about the rainbow and pink background
Turns out, no, he told me I had his full support, that it was an amazing message, that there should be more people openly showing their support and that he had trans folks in his familly

I was almost crying to receive that genuine validation ;-; I hope I'll see him again at that supermarket (which feel much safer now)

Open Letter: Stop the Uncritical Adoption of AI Technologies in Academia

It's been a year & people tell me they've changed their mind, feel safer now to sign, etc. So I'm sharing it again for them. We're almost at 2k & anybody from anywhere can add their names.

We call upon you to: * Resist the introduction of Al in our own software systems, from Microsoft to OpenAl to Apple. It is not in our interests to let our processes be corrupted and give away our data to be used to train models that are not only useless to us, but also harmful. + Ban Al use in the classroom for student assignments, in the same way we ban essay mills and other forms of plagiarism. Students must be protected from de-skilling and allowed space and time to perform their assignments themselves.
+ Cease normalising the Al hype and the lies which are prevalent in the technology industry's framing of these technologies. The technologies do not have the advertised capacities and their adoption puts students and academics at risk of violating ethical, legal, scholarly, and scientific standards of reliability, sustainability, and safety. * Fortify our academic freedom as university staff to enforce these principles and standards in our classrooms and our research as well as on the computer systems we are obliged to use as part of our work. We as academics have the right to our own spaces. + Sustain critical thinking on Al and promote critical engagement with technology on a firm academic footing. Scholarly discussion must be free from the conflicts of interest caused by industry funding, and reasoned resistance must always be an option.

Investigating this today, looks like there's a new residential proxy scraping the html of the various ecosyste.ms services, not the json api.

Useragent is all last years chrome on desktop mac, all executing js and passing anubis, see if I can make some tweaks to that config to shut it down.

It is therefore disturbing to see the recent trend of proofs being abandoned at an intermediate stage of their developmental process, for instance by an individual or company using AI tools to first generate and then verify a proof, but then showing no inclination to contribute any further to its future development and maturation

wow i can't imagine people just generating stuff with AI and then letting it rot. god forbid!

Still have some bugs to iron out (especially with syntax highlighting), but DNS Kitchen’s new zone file editor is getting closer to production!

A screenshot of a browser-based text editor for DNS Kitchen. It looks like a rudimentary IDE, but shows a BIND zone file for the domain email.engineering. The editor has syntax highlighting, rendering the components of the BIND zone file in different colors. The top left corner of the screen shows a small DNS Kitchen "Chef" icon, a very small chef smiling. To the right of that, the text "DNS Kitchen Zone File Editor" appears. At the top right, the text "28 Records" appears. At the bottom left, it says "Line 55, Column 1". And at the bottom right, there is a Save button.

Last para - All that said, as I gaze upon this Baphomet-looking construct, what I find myself waffling back and forth on is how the the MAGA world in particular would actually receive a product like Threehalves if it existed. On one hand, they live to be offended by anything they can interpret as being satanic or anti-Christian–who could forget the breathless right-wing condemnation of something like the “satanic” opening ceremonies of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris? But on the other hand, MAGA adherents have also been so thoroughly conditioned by the likes of Elon Musk into unthinkingly surrendering their lives, independence and critical thinking to AI and robotic automation–while claiming Democrats are trying to steal their independence by providing them with walkable cities–that I could just as easily see the MAGA hordes lining up in support of the horned, chainsaw-wielding demon robots the moment Musk or Trump tells them to do so. Could Threehalves be the hottest Christmas 2028 gift item for whatever Trump supporters remain at that time? If it actually exists, that is?
