🗣YOU’RE WELCOME!

signed,
#GenX mom of two #zillennials

ps: a lot of us GenX women who didn't embrace yuppie #feminism were called losers, sold outs, quitters. many of us lost careers to motherhood.

and this was not just in right-wing corporate settings. i had a “model minority” reject me for a position in a “progressive” non-profit because, “how can you give us 110% when you have two kids”.

zilennial #socialism is the finding out after fucking around a whole generation of GenX moms.

And the results are in!

Nigel Farage: 22 239 (63.34%)
Count Binface: 9 455 (26.93%)

That's even better than the polls suggested. In order for Farage to look good coming out of this, he'd have needed Saddam Hussein numbers (high 90s). Instead he barely managed twice the votes of the man with a bin on his head. That said, though, he did actually get more votes this time round than 2024, when he got 21 225 votes. So his base in Clacton seems immovable, but makes up only around a quarter of the electorate. It's not at all certain he's going to triumph again in the next by-election against more serious opponents. He's suffered grievous wounds to his reputation today.

Farage didn't even bother turning up to the announcement. It would have been a tough choice between how he'd look churlishly failing to show up and how he'd look standing up there among all the other joke candidates.

Thank you for your service, Count Binface 🫡

I won't go into all the reasons why this particular combination, it's just one of the possible ones I'm working through on a new laptop.

Thanks!

✴️ You can now preorder it at https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Deep-Unlearning/Timnit-Gebru/9781668093078

✴️ Is there a local bookstore that you think should order this book? Can you let me know, or, even better, let them know?

✴️ Is there a place I should plan to come for a book tour when the book is out? Can you lmk?

Cover of my new book, Deep Unlearning: The Rise of AI and The Radicalization of a Tech Idealist. There are two concentric circles in the book, the left being circuits in black an white, and the right being a bunch of dots with orange accents. The cover background is cream. And the words are written in black except for "Un" which is in orange.

so, (barely) reading between the lines of what Twitch's staff said:

  1. they were forced by Amazon to add the AI training setting and to make it opt-out, because the overlords know perfectly well there's no reason anyone would ever opt-in

  2. the actual Twitch staff who run Twitch do not like this and are of the same mind about it as all of you

  3. Taking the time to opt-out, even if you don't really stream, gives them data to take to meetings with their overlords to prove that Twitch users dislike AI and pushing it too hard will drive people from the site.
