LOL they wanted the practical ring to light up on Lanterns. Oh, sweet summer children.

It probably worked until the first time an actor bumped against anything and never again.

Props *has* to know by know even *if* they got it to work consistently, there's no way show runners aren't going to replace that glow with VFX every single time.

Every single hero phaser in Picard was dropped and broken at least twice and I think only 1/3 lit up inconsistently by the end

Re: movie theaters

Maybe I'm in the minority but I don't want vegetable oil vapor and water hitting me when I'm trying to watch a movie. I don't need extra screens to each side. I like the reclining chairs, keep that. But give me a little table for my popcorn.

Just make the screens bigger, with a taller aspect ratio and if you're going to fuck us on snack pricing then at least get better snacks.

Kindness isn't just using polite words. That's the weakest, most shallow definition.

Kindness is expressed through action. Kindness is the manifestation of actually caring.

It has nothing to do with "being right", as Microblog Guy framed it. It has everything to do with caring.

it produces impressively sniff test-passing cooking talk. the recipe of course needed correcting, because it couldn't possibly work. i beat it into a shape where i couldn't see it obviously not working. naturally this did not eliminate all of the problems, just the obvious ones.

so given that i have been cooking competently for years, tell me again how i should let it write code for me.

This is worth repeating, since That One Microblog Guy seems to have a very specific definition of "kindness" that pretty much equates to "be nice to everyone, always, no matter what".

He mistakes passion for harshness, especially when he disagrees with the underlying issue (he currently believes it's fine for MacStories to be back on X, so anyone disagreeing is "harsh").

The truth is, he simply lacks passion himself. He doesn't stand up for people. He only stands up for "the open, social web".
