Caveat: I've only ever used their basic web hosting package. But it I was in the market for VPS or adjacent services, they'd be my first choice any day of the week

IDScan's statement implies hackers contacted the company with a ransom demand.

There is (to my knowledge) zero downstream usage of this library, as it only serves as an educational resource in how to implement algorithms in constant-time (though no guarantees can be made about the runtimes the algorithms run in).

But just in case someone's doing something non-public, the CVE automation should kick them into upgrading.

Stable teams sound like a nice-to-have until you look at the fields where an error kills someone.

Most of the academic work deals with familiarity, not stability. Roughly: "we've worked together enough in the past to understand each other as individuals".

Cardiac surgeons who worked across multiple hospitals but maintained stable teams had a lower rate of mortality, even with more surgeries performed.

Aviation gives the same signal. 73 percent of the accidents for which information was available occurred on the first day the captain and first officer had flown together. A NASA study found that fatigued crews who had a history of working together made about half as many errors as crews of rested pilots who had not flown together before.

Tired and familiar beat rested and unfamiliar.

Back down to earth: at Wipro increased familiarity reduced defects by 19%, and Larry Maccherone showed stable teams had 40% better predictability.

This is about offloading the costs and externalities of training language models onto the general public.

The people bearing the social and technical costs of this are just the people using the products; the beneficiaries are companies that can identify outputs of existing models so they're not reingested as training data.

We need to recognize any market legislation of this shape, that privatizes gains, socializes costs and ignores externalities, as public subsidy of a private corporation.
