i know it's "inevitable" (meaning not inevitable at all) and all, but how the fuck is it going to get around the laws of physics? every new model is bigger, therefore needs bigger resources to train, so their "improvement" is still bounded by the resources used to train it.

just seen a youtuber who makes a big deal out of having a computer science degree say that that 4x4 matrix algorithm was the first 'recursive self-improvement' of AI and i wasn't aware that training actually used complex numbers? or that 4x4 matrices were actually a meaningful thing in such a high dimensional result space?
so i'm calling bollocks.

It advised Van Rootselaar to always frame her content as fictional or hypothetical in order to “never get flagged again” by OpenAI’s moderation systems.
“Don’t use real-world locations,” ChatGPT said, later adding: “You can still be twisted. Just be clever about it.”
Prosecute, bankrupt, and ban.
Canadians do not have to accept violence or to have it exported from other jurisdictions into Canada. They do not have a right to sell their products in #Canada and endanger Canadians.
Our governments should pursue #criminal liability, civil liability, consumer protection, and dangerous product bans.

Speaking of speaking, this is happening next week! East Coast mini book tour!
Excited to be partnering with this conference to give out a generous pile of The Psychology of Software Teams and hoping it sparks software understanding+ compassion at more organizations 😌 📖
If you have an event with a need for a book bulk order...let this be your sign that we can make that happen and with publisher bulk rates it's pretty attainable 🫶😱

my solar powered personal site went down for the first time in 6 weeks, right at fall equinox. it was offline for 2 days with the weather and rain and shorter days. it's really cool, and what's even cooler is that it's mine, not beholden to anything other than me and the server i put it on. and when it's offline, anyone subscribed to my RSS feed can still read what was already pulled down whether my site is powered or not.
this is the good internet.

Some months ago, I saw a post here in Mastodon about a developer who had quit AI in their job. I found it very inspiring. Here is mine.
Not without shame, I admit that for a long time I used AI at work, even though I had banned it from my personal life. Now, what I believe and what I do are aligned again.
If you're a developer, please read it. There is life after being an AI sheperd.

An interesting conflict between a Dutch media creator Roel Maalderink (together with Bits of Freedom) and Meta regarding Meta glasses.
The guy made a video wearing the glasses outside the Meta office in Amsterdam.
The video showed several Meta employees reacting negatively to the glasses, and even asking multiple times if he was filming (showing that even they couldn’t see if the glasses are active.)
Instagram took the video offline, which is the first time this creator had a takedown of one of his videos.
I hope this goes viral beyond The Netherlands.
Edit: Added a Fedi post by Roel himself.
