#neverslop

a background reminiscent of plaid, mostly pink and green lines at angles diagonal to each other. atop is overlaid the words "never slop" in a blocky typeface that has been filled with noise and then had smearing applied to the left and down. the overall effect is visually offensive.
something resembling a sea urchin on a black background, except the spines are filled with colorful static and the center has bit patterns turning it pink and green while continuing to be noisy underneath. The words "never slop" are in green surrounding it but have been turned 90 degrees and set on an arc, one word above and one below. The text is also beveled and textured

Wait... if the US economy only created 29k new jobs last month... that's literally only about 600 net new jobs per state. (and we all know how the states famously have a uniform distribution of jobs lol)

But get this... we just graduated 3 million high schoolers last year and about 1/3rd to one half won't go to college and instead will look for jobs.

For those kids to all get jobs within a year you'd need AT LEAST every state to add 30k jobs per year (on average).

We're pretty far from that

Binance pleaded guilty to Iran (and other) sanctions violations in 2023. Trump pardoned its founder. Binance took a $2B investment paid in the Trump family’s stablecoin. Now DOJ is investigating Binance for... Iran sanctions violations, under a US attorney who used to be Trump's lawyer.

Binance Binance has dropped its March defamation lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal over the outlet’s reports that the Department of Justice was investigating Binance for violating sanctions against Iran [I102].18 The request to dismiss the lawsuit came the day after Bloomberg confirmed that the Manhattan US Attorney’s Office is indeed probing Binance’s compliance program to determine whether the company knew that customers were using its platform to circumvent the sanctions.19 I’ll be interested to see how that investigation plays out. The Southern District of New York is currently headed by Jamie McDonald, a former Trump personal lawyer. While in private practice, he represented Coinbase in its lawsuit from the SEC, and has also represented Polymarket and other crypto-adjacent firms.
Binance has been a lucrative partner to Trump, accepting a $2 billion investment from the United Arab Emirates’ MGX investment fund denominated in the USD1 stablecoin [I83]. That $2 billion is a substantial chunk of USD1’s reserves, and helped to generate $8.3 million in income for Trump in 2025. Binance has also provided software to the Trump family’s World Liberty Financial, listed USD1 for trading, and offered incredibly generous promotions to incentivize traders to buy the Trump family’s stablecoin [Quid pro quo]. The benefits have gone both ways for Binance. A 2023 enforcement action by the SEC, which accused Binance of fraud and operating as an unregistered securities exchange (and included a quote from Binance’s Chief Compliance Officer that “we are operating as a fking unlicensed securities exchange in the USA bro”), was dismissed with prejudice in May 2025 [I85]. Later that year, Trump pardoned the company’s former CEO, Changpeng Zhao, who was convicted of violating anti-money laundering and sanctions laws [I95].

I’ve been setting up a lot of self-hosted infrastructure and apps this year in an effort to take back control of my own computing, but it’s becoming nigh-impossible to find options that aren’t heavily tainted with LLM-generated code. The promise of open source and permissive licensing was that we can inspect it and even fork it if the original developers move toward a direction that doesn’t work for us… but what good is that when the code is rapidly devolving into unmaintainable, incomprehensible spaghetti? People are racking up technical debt at an ASTONISHING pace and the metaphorical bill WILL come due. (Likely around the same time that the financial bill comes due.) A lot of incompetent “developers” will simply abandon their projects when that happens. I don’t want to be stuck with the consequences of their short-sighted decisions, but is there any reasonable alternative that doesn’t involve directly giving all my data to the Big Tech companies who are creating this catastrophe in the first place?

Anyhow, if there’s a secret cabal of anti-corporate anti-LLM developers out there which needs help with technical documentation, hit me up, let’s be friends. 💖

@t3rr0rz0n3 Finally got around to trying clouding.io today. I like it!

* Upfront pricing
* Good prices
* Good "vibes" (the web site seems to be by developers for developers)
* Easy setup

But, according to their web site, IPv6 support isn't great in Spain yet, so if you want ipv6 you have to use a tunnel provider. :sad-trombone:

I'm going to look around a bit more for something w/ native v6 support, but I may be back. 👀

I can’t help but see it as a form of manipulation, and a dangerous one at that. Turning over access to your systems and data is a serious thing, but when a little cute furry critter is the one asking for access to all of your stuff, I suspect some people find it slightly easier to say yes.

(I will never use this stuff, and so my own data and omg.lol member data will always be completely safe from agentic systems.)

@tante I keep thinking about writing up a blog post titled something like "No, we're not all hanging out at the Nazi Bar", with the basic premise of:

Hey, you keep saying you like hanging out at the Nazi Bar because "everyone" is there, but, no, we're not. You are not hearing anyone who's not cool hanging out with Nazis. Continuing to tell me what fun you're having at the Nazi Bar is not a great look. Nor is telling me how Good For Business being seen at that bar is.
