I think part of what makes "Chess" so lovable is that it's a little microcosm of Gen X - world almost at war at every moment, on every level, in every field, for our entire youth, and once it looks like the danger's been defused somewhat and we're all gonna live a lot longer than we had thought we find out there are worse things than the eternal spectre of life in a radioactive wasteland.
But we go on pretending
stories like ours
have happy endings.
