One thing you learn as a forever-student of history is that fascists don't just wake up one morning as a fascist. It's a process.
Not every centrist who equates the far left to the far right is a Nazi. But every Nazi was once a centrist who equated the far left to the far right.
It's a stepping stone. It's a big dial on the wall. What changes is the audience because that rhetoric invites Nazis. So one day you can dial it all the way up to applause.
