• OWA to Apple: There is no way for browsers to detect if they are the default browser nor a one click system prompt to allow users to set the default browser. This is standard on all other major operating systems except iOS. The friction Apple has added to this process undermines users switching to a new default browser needs to be fixed in order for them to be in compliance with 6(3) and 13(4). Currently Apple does not have a centralized location to change the default browser. Searching "default" or "default browser" yields no results in settings. Instead they have inappropriately placed it in each individual browser's settings page. Astonishingly Apple has added custom code to hide the option to change default browser in the Safari settings if Safari is the default browser, and prominently show it if a different browser is default. We had thought that Apple would have fixed such an outrageous dark pattern prior to the DMA coming into force but in the latest version of iOS it is still present. Apple’s Response: In terms of the last question around the default browser, I think we’ve covered that at length. I don’t have much more to add on that point
