In #RustLang cargo-deb, I automatically fix some build configuration to make pkg-config work when cross-compiling, make debug symbols compressed and installed externally. I could also help build man pages, bash completions, etc.
That starts looking like a build system.
If I extracted the build tweaks into a separate tool, would you use it?
