Steve had been a prominent pro-fediverse voice at Mozilla since late 2022 (for example with https://blog.mozilla.org/en/mozilla/mozilla-launch-fediverse-instance-social-media-alternative/ ) so at least from the outside it seems like there's probably a connection here.
