Apple's frankness is rare but not unheard of. Steve Jobs did the same with flash.
One glaring difference- Tim Cook didn't put his name on the press release.
Considering the second most notorious firings in all of Apple history boiled down Scott Forstall not signing the Maps apology letter, I find that odd.
