I was verified prior it being something one would pay for, nor did I ask to be verified; someone at Meta decided I should be verified and thus I was. I am happy to be verified as I am a public enough individual that others have pretended to be me to try to scam others, and it's nice to be able to point to actual "official" accounts on Meta properties. I haven't paid for any of it, ever.
