from a research paper (source unknown): two images side by side with numbered axes of unclear purpose. the left image is clearly a low resolution (<=50 pixels wide and tall) of former US president Barack Obama. the right image is a "digitally enhanced" upscale of the left, but is clearly an anonymous white man! despite also looking like a straightforward interpolation of the information from the left image. what turned Obama white, then, were the biases encoded into the upscaling algorithm and whatever data it relied on.
