back in the day, even with birthright succession, if the nobility decided you shouldn’t accede, then you didn’t become king (or queen).
that’s the system of government american b̶i̶l̶l̶i̶o̶n̶a̶i̶r̶e̶s̶¹ want: one in which b̶i̶l̶l̶i̶o̶n̶a̶i̶r̶e̶s̶ (not even millionaires) act as a nobility & decide who you accept as your ruler with pantomime elections.
(¹elsewhere they’re called milliardaires)
