The most surprising thing I've learned about Fallout from Tim Cain's (producer/writer/programmer on the original Fallout) youtube videos is that the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system didn't come about from picking the word SPECIAL and making an acrostic out of it.
In its 1st draft, it didn't have "Luck." They added that for purely mechanical reasons and didn't change it to SPECIAL until they introduced the new system to the team as ACE LIPS and someone pointed out it could spell SPECIAL instead
