So I'm re-reading the first chapter of Higurashi and the whole deal with this series is that it presents an idyllic portrait of youthful everyday life in a remote village that then unexpectedly curdles into horror, often due to a transgression that the MC didn't even realize was taking place.
So "Higurashi, except everyone fucking hates it there from minute 1" is a funny concept in and of itself... and it's almost a perfectly apt description of the Echo VN
