I now feel like I have what just might be a beginner's understanding of zero knowledge proofs and their state in the industry today. Once you understand how IOPs, SNARKs and STARKs are constructed and related theoretical foundations, and the role of polynomials and arithmetic circuits, it becomes much easier to intuit about everything else.
But still, what an enormous field! My first impression is that it's broader than most other subfields in cryptography.
