Just got admonished by some right-winger that what I support is just "free stuff from government". As if that was some kind of gotcha? This is exactly what government (taxes, in particular) is for. If you despise "free stuff from government", go build your own highway.
"We the People [..], in Order to [..] promote the general Welfare" — general welfare is literally in the first phrase of the US Constitution.
