As Discord prepares its IPO (with a $15B valuation), there’s never been a better time to re-evaluate where your friends and communities connect with one another. Discord’s values are antithetical to the independent / small web that so many of us love, and there’s no reason for “internet chat” to be enshittified to the tune of billions of dollars.
For less than the cost of a Discord server boost, you can run your own fully independent IRC server.
