Something specific brought this to mind, but you can imagine this applying to any number of situations. And I'll just add (free from context I know) that it doesn't matter how caring or good the people working for that big company are when they do this. What matters is the structure and purpose of the company they work for. We spend so much time asking whether employees are good people (yes usually) and not nearly enough time asking whether the institution that directs their work is good.
