Social media does not have the power to separate us from our friends and family. Platforms are platforms, not island prisons.
I personally find framing #federation as a savior for personal relationships to be a wildly manipulative talking point.
It's simply untrue. I keep in touch with the people most important to me using a myriad of technologies. I've never felt as if I'm missing out on someone's life because we don't share the same social platform.
