Assembling a Philips CM200 200kV TEM Electron Gun after extensive rebuild. These resistor chains form the accelerator voltage divider, at 200kV each chain has 40kV across it.

After resistors, corona rings go on each stage. Assembled, it goes in a lead lined housing, and Sulfur Hexafluoride replaces the air.

SF6 is better than air when it comes to holding off 44 kV across a gap as small as 1.7 mm.

Don’t now when it *actually* discharges there (not pictured yet) but it does (did?). Frequently.
