Fun fact. In Soviet Union, the #IWD colloquially known as just "March 8th" was heavily skewed towards expressing courtesy attention towards women: flowers, nice gifts, expression of appreciation and love. And for couples in romantic relationship it was basically a stand in for St. Valentine's (which we didn't know) devoid of any emancipation angle.
