Basically every political party that said ‘tariffs won’t really impact us / it’s no big deal / someone else will take care of that’ got their asses handed to them by Singapore voters, who are incredibly conscious of being from a place that is entirely about global trade. Ups and downs of global trade impact lives and jobs very quickly there.
It also sounds shocking out of touch and dismissive.
Trade is so important to us that even the aunties at the local coffee shop know the exchange rate of SGD to a few major world currencies.
Anyone who still believes our elections are only about domestic policies probably doesn’t believe it anymore.
