Today marks the first day of Disability Pride Month. ♿️❤️ Nearly a decade ago, we had a pretty serious scare when our eye doctor found an issue with my daughter’s retina. While everything turned out (mostly) OK there, that episode kicked off a journey of deep learning related to blindness and Braille. I spent a lot of time at the American Printing House for the Blind (near where I live), learned to read Braille visually, got up to a halfway decent typing speed on a Perkins brailler, and put my nerd skills to use trying to build some interesting web stuff related to Braille. I’m going to try to dust a couple of those projects off this week and put them back on my website. (One is a Braille cell decoder, and the other is a virtual brailler, which is kind of fun to use!)
