I think people like this never really see themselves as defending the facism (even though that is exactly what they’re doing). They’re defending people they like, sometimes their heroes or friends, because when someone points out an inconvenient truth about those friends, it makes *them* feel things that they don’t know how to handle.
Well, I’m sorry about that. But I’m neck-deep in a country being torn apart by fascism and I’m not going to tone it down so that you can feel better.
