So it looks like Americans are now getting acquainted with another aspect of living in authoritarian countries: constant rumors of the untimely demise of the dear leader.
About 10 years ago, whenever Putin wasn't seen on TV for little more than a week, it immediately produced speculations of him having died. Those hopes were then crashed by him appearing a few days later radiating health and very knowingly grinning. After a few times it became obvious this was done on purpose.
