I used to do “agricultural work” in Humboldt County, and we used to call Fall ‘The Season of the Drunk Deer’. there were a lot of old, abandoned apple orchards in the area, the apples would ferment after dropping to the ground, and the deer would eat the fermented fruit and stagger about.
I spent a fair amount of my time repairing chickenwire around plants to keep the deer away, as otherwise we’d also find the plants eaten down to a nub and spaced out deer just hanging around.
