Fostering an environment where the only tech we're allowed to criticize is the tech we immediately stop using makes us weird and territorial and guarantees we stop making objective observations. Because then it just becomes trying not to be a hypocrite.
Using Proton is still better than ad-tech email. That doesn't mean we don't call them out. It's not our job to protect them. It's their job to earn goodwill. And their rationalization was dog shit. That's on them.
