Speaking of Apple Pay, what’s the deal with American chatter about whether a particular brick&mortar retailer supports Apple Pay? AFAICT in Europe, if a retailer supports NFC, it supports Apple Pay (and Google Pay). (Though a phone doesn’t physically fit in some misdesigned Swedish vending machines.)
Do Americans just not care about NFC generally and “supports Apple Pay” means “supports NFC”, or is Apple Pay support really decoupled from NFC-on-card-shaped-thing support in the U.S.?
