This is the Sony PS-F5, or “The Flamingo.” It’s a portable record player from 1985. I once saw one in a thrift store. I should have bought it.

I’d never be comfortable sliding my vinyl into this player. One slip and you’ve ended your record.

It’s a cool design, though. With innovative engineering. It’s neat.

• video: The video shows the player, which is a slender tower of silver. The record is inserted downward into the device. A dial is turned, which activates a clamping system. The records, mostly with bright colors, play while the record is vertical. The player itself is only slightly wider than the label on the vinyl. Through various edits the narrator shows each component as described, moving through the buttons, connectors, battery compartment, etc. There are also some original cilps of packaging and commercials woven in.
