@lianna mastodon is also not just activitypub, but extends it with its own types and conventions. I was considering implementing activitypub compatibility with my own social network protocol, but decided against it for that & other reasons. Along the way I found this great write up from the authors of Diaspora, which I summarize (and link to) here:
