I feel very smug. You know how backups you have not tested are useless? Well I bought a new SSD and before I install it in it's final location I installed it in my laptop to see if I could restore it from backup.
I can and I've learnt some things about restoring ubuntu systems.
- You better have a USB disk to boot from. If your only computer is toast you can't download one so make sure you already have one.
