Spirit Hunter NG seems to unexpectedly have a lot of theming related to Japanese national myths, and not really the ones that are supposed to be creepy/ghostly. Non-spoilery details: early on you find a weird postcard that references Princess Kaguya and one of the first areas is a park with a bunch of things in it that use names from the tale of Urashima Taro. So it doesn't seem to be like, "Here's the ghastly truth behind the legends!!" or anything
