Fedora has been moving to systemd user session management which has apparently (?) had a byproduct of KWin becoming more and more coupled. In 35 it's finally becoming an issue where the way you have to override KWin to use i3 is tied in deep to the user sessions

The Fedora issue stems from me using the KDE spin, but using i3 as the window manager instead of KWin (I love i3...but I like nice things like notifications, audio device handling, network manager, etc. I.e. the boring stuff).
