I believe a big factor that we haven't acknowledged is that people die and their family do not attribute it to covid. There may be lots of good reasons for that. But I think some part of it is shame. Overall, this has been an extremely private pandemic.

@polotek otoh, I saw a story about someone who got vaxxed after realizing 21 people they knew had died & all I could think was that I couldn't figure out how 21 people lost could have just snuck up on you. even if they were acquaintances or professional contacts, 21!
