My latest fort was really thriving until my dwarves followed a coal seam into a cavern full of troglodytes.

It turns out that hitting the "enemies off" option when you start a new fortress doesn't prevent them from spawning.

This probably wouldn't have been a huge problem except I haven't really learned much about setting up militia or medical stuff yet. RIP little guys
