Learning new skills! For my kid's recent performance at her school I:
- Glued together and normalized volume of two audio tracks (ffmpeg).
- Recorded the performance on video with my camera.
- Superimposed the original audio track on the video and adjusted its volume against the audio from the mic to drown out the ambient noise (OpenShot).
- Added subtle fade in and out :-)P.S. OpenShot is… very idiosyncratic. Which is not saying much when compared against ffmpeg :-)

So #Ubuntu disabled `pip install --local`. Which was how all of my helper scripts were installed, because… it was simple and it worked. Now, if I want to run something I wrote in #Python on my own machine I need to either a) wrap it in a Debian package or b) use a venv for every project. The latter option means I'll have to run my scripts as `~//.venv/bin/python ~//something.py instead of just `something`.
P.S. I'm sure there were Reasons™. I'm just frustrated…
After two months, my art block is finally over!

Remember: Apple's argument to the UK competition tribunal wasn't that users would be safer if they didn't have a choice to switch browsers when the next WebKit vuln lands.
It wasn't that WebKit is actually a leading engine.
It wasn't that businesses aren't harmed by a decade of shocking neglect and showstopping bugs.
No, Apple's argument was "you didn't begin an investigation fast enough".

It's telling that Cupertino is willing to go to these extremes despite the stacking reputational risks. The extractive machine must be fed!
A web that *actually* competes with apps the way Apple has claims in court that they do just can't be allowed to emerge.

Expect Safari headcount to mysteriously go walkabout should the EU astroturfing and lobbying go the same way as the UK petulance has.

With the CMA Appeal, the mask is fully off: Apple really hates the idea of you being able to choose a better browser. So much so that it's willing to funnel dark money to lobbying groups and litigate even the smallest technicalities to avoid having to compete.
Imagine, if you can, this kind of cash going to improve WebKit!
