There *are* good reasons to rewrite in some new technology, sometimes. But not often. And almost *never* to deliver poorer performance at higher cost.

"We're rewriting (a large, successful frontend) in React for better maintainability" is gibberish.

How did the successful system succeed? People maintained it!

How will we know if your new system is more maintainable? It will need to live as long as the old one, which means this sort of statement immediately fails Hitchen's Razor.

What folks peddling this *mean* to say is "I would prefer to write code in this style".

This is not a business goal. It's not even a hiring strategy.

Gibberish.

Don't overthink it. Vision Pro is easily worth $3500 alone just for watching 2D movies and TV and sports on a virtual high-res enormous screen. If Apple can *also* offer 3D live sports and compelling original 3D content and games, they won't be able to make them fast enough to keep up with demand at $3500.

$3500 is a bargain for what Vision Pro offers.

So, this is great news!

Jerry Bell @jerry who runs the large Mastodon instance infosec.exchange, has posted that they are running both #Lemmy and #kbin instances:

"I have good news!
https://infosec.pub is running lemmy, and https://fedia.io is running kbin and we control them both"
https://infosec.exchange/@jerry/110527602646036871

This should give people confidence that these instances can handle the coming surge in new users:

Never underestimate the power of moving an app off your home screen and launch bar. It's amazing how much of my idle time allocation goes to which app I place in which slot. E.g. replacing my Twitter icon with Elk (Mastodon) had a profound pavlovian transfer effect for me. I didn't expect it to even work.

Two people have accused Pixelfed of going closed source because of a few missing js files and broken webpack config.

I know it's not a good look, but was overlooked for so long because I ship compiled js so npm isn't a required dependency.

Anyways, I'm going through and pushing the missing source files and then updating the webpack config so you can build the frontend ui properly again.

Then I'll get back to Import from IG 😎
