The governor of Russia’s Lipetsk province says the Wagner mercenary group has entered the region, AP reports.

The Lipetsk region is about 360km (225 miles) south of Moscow and much closer to the capital than Rostov-on-Don, where Wagner forces appeared during the night.

It is a work in progress. The text above adorns the first page of the current Zine copies of this book, which are available for sale. It clocks in around 100 pages, and those pages are complete and can stand alone. I am now working through additional supplements and further information, which will be shared on Community Media Network, and made available as zines.

When I feel like I’ve said what I need to say, I’ll make it available in a more professionally bound package.

In the meantime, learn about the history of DIY Television, and how you can (and must!) make your own television today.

Putin's rhetoric is also telling. He isn't joking, isn't promising to "snuff" anyone "in the toilet", like during the Chechen war. He's… appealing to patriotic feelings and trying to rally the nation around himself. The nation that, as he should know, largely hates him, despite all brainwashing. It means he's out of options and is probably very afraid. He never cowers and begs, normally.

My hot take is, given Prigozhin's rhetoric, he's aiming at a military coup, not a state one. As in, Putin still at the top, but Prigozhin controls the military. Only, that doesn't work for Putin, it means he doesn't have control, so he'll be forced to subdue Prigozhin.

But any way, it can only end badly for the Russian junta.

"Years ago, anthropologist Margaret Mead was asked by a student what she considered to be the first sign of civilization in a culture. The student expected Mead to talk about fishhooks or clay pots or grinding stones.
But no. Mead said that the first sign of civilization in an ancient culture was a femur (thighbone) that had been broken and then healed. Mead explained that in the animal kingdom, if you break your leg, you die. You cannot run from danger, get to the river for a drink or hunt for food. You are meat for prowling beasts. No animal survives a broken leg long enough for the bone to heal.
A broken femur that has healed is evidence that someone has taken time to stay with the one who fell, has bound up the wound, has carried the person to safety and has tended the person through recovery. Helping someone else through difficulty is where civilization starts, Mead said."
We are at our best when we serve others. Be civilized.

This is one of the more impressive bits of absolutely insane overdoing it that I've ever seen: (ab)using Blender's raytracing engine to make a simulated film camera, with simulated real optics, to take simulated photographs of scenes.

I can't even imagine how much GPU time went into these, but it's a delightful labor of love. Or maybe just as a way to keep warm during the long, cold Canadian winter.
