The web perf community is awesome, in no small part, because when you work to diagnose the pathologies of complex systems, you can't always hang on a single hypothesis. You have to be flexible and driven by the evidence, focused on the user experience and all of the bits that contribute. Mysteries to solve & engineer around.

If that sounds like it's the opposite of "modern" frontend's marketing-driven approach...welp.

The ghosts in Death Mark can all actually kill you, that's kind of the point of the Death Mark, but it's like... ok. Most regular people could kill me too if they really put their mind to it. You're not special
