The web perf community is awesome, in no small part, because when you work to diagnose the pathologies of complex systems, you can't always hang on a single hypothesis. You have to be flexible and driven by the evidence, focused on the user experience and all of the bits that contribute. Mysteries to solve & engineer around.

If that sounds like it's the opposite of "modern" frontend's marketing-driven approach...welp.

What if we all add a page in our books that says something to the effect of this:

"The appearance of this work on #Google Books constitutes a legally-binding agreement for Google to pay the author a one-time fee of $5,000,000 for a temporary, non-exclusive #licence."

But make the text legally water-tight, and then sue them into discontinuing their #piracy?

Rinse, repeat for every thieving concern out there (though some of the new ones will be more difficult to catch than Google Books).

Actually, one major thing that makes at least the first Death Mark ghost less scary? You know exactly what it is (a ghost) and you learn exactly how to deal with it via an urban legend before you even get anywhere near it.

The paranormal things in Echo are all different and there's no instant way of knowing what their intentions are or how to deal with them

The ghosts in Death Mark can all actually kill you, that's kind of the point of the Death Mark, but it's like... ok. Most regular people could kill me too if they really put their mind to it. You're not special

Really tired of the pro-React argument that you'll have a harder time hiring devs for anything else.

Any developer worth hiring will learn, and be productive in, any framework. End of story.

If your value as a developer is entirely tied up in one specific framework—no matter what it is—my friend, you are on shaky ground.
