Here is my periodic reminder that the fediverse is brought to you for free, but those services cost the fine people managing your instance their time, attention, and money. Admins do it out of love and a belief that there is a better way to operate social media.

Most instance admins rely on donations to offset the cost of operating the service you use. If you love the service you are getting and are in a position to donate, I would ask you to take a few moments and navigate to the “about” page of your instance instancename.social/about (ex. https://Infosec.exchange/about) and find the directions to support your instance. Many thanks to those of you who already do. And a special thanks to those awesome people who donate to the Infosec family of instances :blobheartcat:

I ask this of all parts of the fediverse. We are stronger and healthier together.

Thanks

@briankrebs It's such a cool technology and has so much promise for spreading broadband to rural areas. It's just too bad their competitors aren't even close behind.

I think any satellite swarms should be taxed to pay for more scientific telescope satellites to compensate for interfering with earth based operations.

thank you. AFAIK they cannot re-license the past so it would be possible to continue using the Hashicorp versions prior to adoption of the BSL while migrating to an alternative or even fork if there is a community willing to continue development in an OSS fashion.

And I completely agree with you. Hashicorp's change of license is, in the words of @bcantrill, "shitting in the pool of Open Source and disgusting corporate behaviour".*

A number of the bike routes around Boston have bike counters; several were apparently installed last year around the same time on Northern Strand, Minuteman, Norwottock, and Cape Cod rail trails.

Using the data from these bike counters, I've graphed a 2-week moving average of daily bike trips counted by these counters.

I would not have known that the Cape Cod Rail Trail is as popular as the Minuteman! (The counter for CCRT is in Brewster, near the middle-ish.)

This image of 1920′s New York City from the Staten Island Ferry sent chills up and down my spine.

It's more than 100 years old. But it's instantly recognizable as NYC. It would have sounded and felt much the same. Modernity is so old. The modern city, the grid, New York grit and fast walking are all older than anyone who is alive today.

The premodern world is beyond human memory.

*shudder*

Of course it was also very different in some ways... but every one has legacies.
