React gotchas:
- It's className
- It's htmlFor
- style attribute has to be an object
- No loops
- Everything is a return statement
- No if statements
- Controlled inputs
- Everything is a function return
- Can only return a single element
- useEffect
- Rendering loops
- Data only goes one way
- Hooks only in components
- Hooks are bad anyway use signals
- Figure out your own CSS
- Don't assign directly to variables

Svelte gotchas:
- Don't forget to reassign arrays and objects.

I was concerned that abandoning Twitter would have a negative effect on traffic to my blog. It has made no difference at all. In fact, traffic is up slightly (that's noisy and variable, though, so you can't interpret that too much.)

Unsolicited advice for open source maintainers: when you start feeling those tendrils of burnout, give yourself permission to hack on something in your project which *doesn't* move the needle. Literally tack into the wind.

You maintain this project because you like the technology, and most of the time OSS burnout comes from the endless Issue queue and not from code. So give yourself permission to enjoy the code for a change.

Or just chill. That's okay too <3

Firefox's use of Rust (https://github.com/mozilla/mp4parse-rust) and the fact that there is more than just this one implementation of the format saved us this time. 😌

@owa Why does this matter? In part, because the forced iOS browser monoculture is *terrible* for users who can't get access to safer, better-funded browser engines, or engines built with safer technology (e.g., Gecko):

Apple's strategy when in the wrong (which is a *lot*: right-to-repair, cables, browser choice, etc.) is to argue literally anything that will cause delay ("as much due process as they can afford"):

https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/uk-antitrust-regulator-wins-appeal-over-apple-probe-2023-11-30/

This case turned on the meaning of the word "shall", as Apple argued not that the CMA's findings that it's anti-competitive browser behaviour was wrong, but that the CMA didn't regulate *fast* enough.

It would be hilarious if it hadn't blocked progress for 6+ months.
